'Dynamics in Impermanence’ is a temporal installation that is part of a body of work exploring new and classical ways we view, interpret and inhabit artworks.German cultural critic Walter Benjamin explored the idea of ‘aura’ in art and how the advent of photographic and mechanical reproduction broke down the authentic artistic experience. Benjamin argued that experience of the reproduction was almost as fulfilling as the experience of the original; diminishing the aura of the original.Contemporary art faces further layers of reproduction; the export and sharing of images and movies through digital social mediums.

‘Dynamics in Impermanence’ deals directly with this paradigm of reproduction by creating shifting experiences for the authentic and the reproduction. The temporal elements of the site, namely light, shadow and weather conditions, shift the digitally distillable interpretation of the piece. The digital reproduction is best experienced through quick, theatrical snapshots. This high contrast silhouettes and shadow casts affords digital capture and export, while retaining the ever changing authentic spatial and textural experience of the real.

This piece was exhibited with Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi in 2016. It was installed on the headland within the sandstone walls of Mackenzie's Point, Marks Park. This piece is available for acquisition or custom commission.
