NICOLE LARKIN

Nicole Larkin is a coastal architect and urban designer based on the South Coast of NSW. Her practice designs for the wild edge—where architecture meets sea level rise. Her work spans nature-based coastal infrastructure, architecture, and policy, including the NSW Coastal Design Guidelines, with a focus on design strategies that are adaptive, affordable and deeply connected to place.

Trained at the University of Sydney, Nicole works across planning, architecture and design. Since 2011, she has contributed to award-winning studios including Tzannes, EM BE CE, and Aileen Sage Architects. Her practice ranges from sculptural installations—exhibited at Sculpture by the Sea in 2013 and 2016—to large-scale policy and strategy.

Nicole was awarded a Byera Hadley Travelling Scholarship in 2016 for her research into ocean pools and a Clitheroe Foundation Mentorship for emerging artists the same year. Her recent coastal work has been recognised by the Australian Institute of Architects (NSW) for excellence in urban design. More recently she was successfully named a fellow of the Marten Bequest, Australia’s most prestigious travelling bequest for emerging architects to support research and creative development.

Through The Wild Edge, Nicole continues to document NSW’s ocean pools, equipping communities with the tools and knowledge to advocate for their protection and renewal in a changing climate.
